The “Sustainable Forestry Practices” Observation Workshop, funded by the European Union, was organized as part of the Environment Project for Cyprus on December 16-17, 2024, in Larnaca and Güzelyurt/Morphou. The workshop focused on key issues such as post-fire reforestation, the management of pine processionary moths, and bark beetles, providing participants with a valuable opportunity to observe forestry practices on-site. On December 17, the Northern Cyprus session of the workshop welcomed Dr. Hüseyin Çelik from Near East University, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Animal Science. The event covered discussions on the long-term impacts of forest fires on ecosystems, the threats posed by harmful insects to forest health, and sustainable forestry solutions. Participants engaged in field observations and collaborated with experts to evaluate environmental conservation strategies.
Supported by the European Union, this workshop was recognized as a significant step toward preserving Northern Cyprus’ forest resources and ensuring their sustainability for future generations. It also contributed to strengthening regional cooperation in sustainable forestry management.
