Participation from the Faculty of Agriculture in the EU’s Green Vision: From Policy to Action Panel!

The “EU’s Green Vision: From Policy to Action” panel held in Nicosia addressed the importance of the European Green Deal and the EU Habitats Directive for Cyprus, as well as biodiversity conservation and sustainable environmental policies.

The event attracted considerable interest from academics, environmental experts, civil society representatives, and students. The Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture also participated in the panel and gave a presentation on the EU Habitats Directive and its importance for natural habitats in Cyprus. The presentation emphasized Cyprus’s fragile ecosystem structure, endemic species, and sustainable land use.

The panel’s opening speech was delivered by Michel Vedrenne, Head of Department at the European Commission’s Cyprus Support Unit. EFI (European Forest Institute) researcher Jeanne-Lazya Roux, Ecologist Prof. Dr. Özge Özden, and Biologist and Environmental Education Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nazım Kaşot also gave presentations on the EU’s environmental policies, afforestation targets, and biodiversity conservation.

The panel concluded with a question-and-answer session and an exchange of views. The event was an important gathering that contributed to raising environmental awareness and achieving sustainable future goals in Cyprus.
