Near East University Faculty of Agriculture Dean, Ecologist Prof. Dr. Özge Özden participated in the “Invertebrate Species Analysis Workshop” held in Antalya within the scope of the “Preparation, Implementation and Monitoring of Action Plans for Endangered Species in Turkey Project” initiated with the support of the European Union.
The rapid population growth in the world, urban expansion, and the expansion of transportation networks negatively affect the living spaces of living things in nature by breaking up and shrinking them. This situation puts many living things in danger of extinction in the world and in our region. The project “Preparation, Implementation and Monitoring of the Action Plan for Endangered Species in Turkey within the Scope of a New Methodology” initiated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks with the financial support of the European Union is also suitable for today to protect endangered species. aims to define a new strategy. Following the series of workshops that will bring together many scientists, action plans for each endangered species will be prepared and a national species protection strategy will be determined.
Species action plans will be prepared for endangered invertebrates
“Workshop on Analysis of Invertebrate Species”, one of the workshops held within the scope of the project, was held in Antalya between 28 September and 1 October. Near East University Faculty of Agriculture Dean, Ecologist Prof. Dr. Özge Özden also attended. In the “Analysis of Invertebrate Species” workshop, in which more than 100 participants were experts in their field, current situation analyzes of endangered invertebrate species were carried out. After the analyses, the process of preparing species action plans for each living thing was started.
