Dr. Rieta Gols from Wageningen University, Netherlands, gave a seminar at Near East University!

Near East University, which has undertaken many joint projects with international collaborations, hosted Dr. Rieta Gols, one of the important scientists in the field of chemical ecology, from Wageningen University in the Netherlands. Dr. Gols discussed the topic of “Plant-host parasitoid interactions mediated by chemical ecology and abiotic factors” at the seminar carried out by the Department of Landscape Architecture.
Focusing her work on the chemical ecology of plant-insect interactions, Dr. Rieta Gols makes significant contributions to the world of science, generally by investigating the genetic diversity in the chemistry of plants and the interactions of this diversity between herbivorous insects. In addition to her studies with the Netherlands Institute of Ecology, Radboud University in the Netherlands, the UK Ecology and Hydrology Center and the Max Plank Institute of Chemical Ecology in Germany, Dr. Rieta Gols has also been carrying out joint projects with Near East University academicians for the last two years.

The ecological research conducted by Prof. Dr. Özge Özden, Dean of Near East University Faculty of Agriculture, Director of the Cyprus Herbarium and Natural History Museum, and Prof. Dr. Salih Gücel, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, focuses on the different agricultural ecosystems and biodiversity in Cyprus. The findings obtained in the study conducted by Prof. Dr. Özden and Dr. Gols and titled “Different agricultural ecosystems and biological diversity in Cyprus”, will be shared with the world scientific community through an article.

Prof. Dr. Özge Özden: “With our collaboration with Dr. Rieta Gols, we have made a significant achievement within a short period of two years.”
Emphasizing that Near East University develops joint projects through scientific collaborations with many universities and institutions from around the world, Near East University Faculty of Agriculture Dean Prof. Dr. Özge Özden said that they shared knowledge and experience with scientists from different cultures and with different expertise.
Prof. Dr. Özden said, “We are very happy to welcome Dr. Rieta Gols from Wageningen University in the Netherlands to our university. With our collaboration with Rieta Gols, we have made significant achievements in a short time of two years. In our joint study titled “Different agricultural ecosystems and biological diversity in Cyprus”, we investigated the effects of irrigation methods on butterfly diversity and abundance. We evaluated the issue of irrigation, which is vital for agricultural ecosystems in the countries in the Mediterranean basin, by taking into account agricultural land use, various systems and climate conditions in the region, and we submitted this study as an article to an international scientific journal.”
