On October 9, 2025, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Dr. Özge Özden, accompanied by Kemal Kaçmaz, President of the National Citrus Council (UTK), and his accompanying delegation, visited Olgun Amcaoğlu, Minister of Economy and Energy of the TRNC. A consultation meeting was held on the hygiene and quality of food in the TRNC during the visit. Prof. Dr. Özge Özden stated, “Food quality is vital to the national economy by both protecting public health and supporting economic growth.
High food quality increases competitiveness in international markets, reduces food safety risks, and prevents food waste and loss, which in turn ensures more sustainable agricultural production and economic stability.” TRNC Minister of Economy and Energy, Olgun Amcaoğlu, expressed her satisfaction with the delegation’s visit and the positive meeting, stating, “Our consultations and work with the Near East University Faculty of Agriculture will continue.” The importance of food hygiene and quality to a country’s economy is directly related to factors such as maintaining a healthy population, increasing labor productivity, reducing healthcare costs, ensuring competitiveness in international trade, and increasing tourism potential. While unsafe food causes health problems and creates an economic burden, high standards enhance a country’s prosperity and international reputation.
